The original plan was to book a cabin in Tennessee but I soon realized three weeks before Thanksgiving was probably too late in the game to make it happen. Seriously, I spent a week on every cabin rental and travel website within a 30 mile radius of Gatlinburg/Pigeon Forge and there wasn’t a single cabin available. So, we did the next best thing, we made reservations in Orlando to spend the long weekend visiting Disney parks.
I was off the hook for the second year in a row. No planning and organizing Thanksgiving dinner. (last year we went to Universal Studios) It’s not that I don’t like having the big get together, it’s just well, I love to get away too!
Not sure how she convinced me, but at the last minute my mom came up with the idea to have a Thanksgiving dinner at my house the day before we hit the road. Nothing fancy, heck, not even all the fixings. Just enough to call it good and spend some time together with my brother and his family and our moms. It was a pleasure having Jorgie’s girlfriend Ana join our crazy family also.
One of the activities the kids (and grown-ups) enjoy after dinner is a few games of Bingo. Nothing makes me happier than to just be present together. Nothing fancy or formal…just together.
